From the very beginning, our mission at EG Home has been to build homes for families as if we were building them for our own. That’s why our team prioritizes superior craftsmanship and exceptional customer care with every home we build. This week, we’re excited to introduce you to our vice president, Chris Bennett, who not only manages our operations, but whose leadership and dedication set the tone for the work we do every day.
What’s your relationship with EG Home? What do you love most about working here?
I have known Matt G. for 10 plus years; we worked together for a national builder. I respect and admire his integrity and overall concern for the wellbeing of his employees. As a small private company, we are nimble and can make quick decisions. Our growth strategy is not driven by the stock market or defined by external performance metrics. We can act on land deals that benefit the company and its employees.
Where did you grow up? Tell us about your family!
I grew up in the southeast corner of Michigan, 15 minutes south of Ann Arbor. I have one sister that lives in the upper portion of lower Michigan and my parents still live in my childhood home. My dad worked on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company for 38 years and my mom was a registered nurse for 40 years.
How do you spend your free time? What do you do to relax?
I like to golf, fish, and spend time with my wife and two daughters.
What do you wish other people knew about EG Home?
We have a talented group of employees that are considerate of their peers and committed to providing an exceptional internal and external customer experience.
What would someone be surprised to know about you?
I’m extremely critical of myself, especially with regard to employee satisfaction and development. I hold myself accountable for the internal satisfaction of my fellow employees.
Tell us about someone you admire.
My dad. I know it is somewhat of a cliché, but he has always exhibited qualities to admire, such as integrity, hard work, decency, and honesty, and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone…he certainly lived by “if you don’t have something nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.”
What inspires you and your work?
“The Man in the Arena” by Theodore Roosevelt. Never be afraid to step outside your “comfort zone,” life’s true rewards come from failure and success.
